We recently installed an 8.3kW solar PV system for this homeowner. This assignment was a unique solar project because the client required a panel upgrade to accept the solar production. Secondly, they had limited south-facing roof space to work with, which is of course, not as optimal for solar power production.

Project Approach:

Since the client had limited south-facing roof space, we created a design that strategically spaced the modules on 3 different roof surfaces to maximize production. Key supporting equipment to get the system performing at its best included a SolarEdge Inverter and Power Optimizer System. The home electrical panel was upgraded to a Leviton Smart panel with a 225A bus bar. In the future, this panel can scale to add a Level 2 EV Charger should the homeowner choose to buy an EV vehicle.

Solar PV System Planning Tips:

Adding a home solar PV system to most residential properties on average takes three months through three stages of work:

  1. Planning,
  2. Design and Permitting,
  3. Installation, Inspection and Energizing.

The best time to plan for adding solar is in the winter. If you have an older home, you may require electrical upgrades in order to make solar work.
