Do I really need an EV charger for my home?

If you own (or plan to own) an electric vehicle, then YES, you do. There are less than 300 public charging stations in the entire province of Alberta and far fewer in Edmonton. The odds of finding an unoccupied charger that is appropriate to the make/model of your vehicle near your home and in a functioning state are extremely slim.

What are the incentives for installing residential EV chargers in Alberta?

Federal government rebates are available to Edmonton residents who own or lease eligible zero-emission vehicles (ZEV). These include the following:

Battery-electric
Plug-in hybrid electric
Hydrogen fuel cell
There are two types of Federal rebates that you may qualify for:

Electric battery, hydrogen fuel cell and plug-in hybrid cars are eligible for up to a $5,000 rebate
The Federal rebates are available until March 31, 2025, OR until available funding is exhausted. Apply these rebates to your investment in an EV changing station.

While there are currently no Edmonton or provincial-based EV rebates available at this time, contact BLDG Electric to learn more about how you can save.

How long will a residential EV charging station last?

The expected charger lifespan is approximately 10 years. External factors (resulting in damage) are generally to blame for an under-average lifespan.

What are the incentives for installing multi-residential EV chargers?

Due to limited requests, the annual incentive may be closed when you find this. Learn more about NRCan’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) and contact BLDG Electric to “subscribe” to updates and to learn more about how you can save.

ZEVIP funding is also available for indigenous organizations, which includes EV charger installation for multi-unit residential buildings. View more about this program.

How long will a multi-residential EV charging station last?

Resident awareness and building security play a vital role in the lifespan of your property’s installation.

EV CHARGER FAQ FOR BUSINESSES

It also improves employee and commercial tenant (as applicable) satisfaction. Current and future EV drivers under your employ (or tenants) will appreciate the convenience. Employers will appreciate that staff may arrive early to score a charger before stations become “occupied.”

What are the incentives for installing commercial EV chargers in Alberta?

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) offers a time-limited request that includes proposals for electric vehicle (EV) charger deployment for commercial properties and office buildings. Do my commercial EV charging stations produce Carbon Credits?

Carbon credits are available through Canada’s new low-carbon fuel standard and its Clean Fuel Regulations platform. These potential credits can offer a significant revenue stream to help businesses (and fleet owners) manage the transition to electrification. To be honest, there is a lot of red tape to cut through to access the federal carbon credit system. BLDG Electric can help. Contact us to find out how you may qualify.
